News of director Rick Famuyiwa leaving The Flash didn’t exactly hit fans too well. Not only is it almost always discouraging to see a talented artist leave a project, but this is in a universe that’s already been riddled with problems. Man of Steel was a divisive film at best, Batman v Superman was underwhelming to some and terrible to others, Suicide Squad was dumb fun at its best, and for some reason or another The Flash can’t seem to lock down a director.
Earlier this year, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author Seth Grahame-Smith left the project due to creative differences, and earlier this week, Famuyiwa, officially dropped out at as well, stating:
“I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical and multicultural point of view.”
Fans weren’t the only ones to be disappointed, however. Actress Kiersey Clemons, who had signed on to play the role of Iris West in the film, expressed her anger to THR.
“Rick was one of the main reasons I wanted to do the movie. So him not being a part of it is obviously very upsetting to me.”
Famuyiwa and Clemons had worked together previously on last year’s Sundance hit Dope, and given how great of a film that turned out to be, we’re all a bit upset that the two will no longer be able to work together. Let’s just hope that this won’t lead to Clemons dropping out of the picture altogether. No matter the director, she’s a talented actress who’d add a lot to Iris.
Does this news regarding Kiersey Clemons concern you, or will you wait to see who hops in as director before you start worrying?
