Zynga Opens New Facility Wi Be Developing New Mobile Star Wars Game

The popular entertanment company Zynga will be heading to a galaxy far, far away. The company announced today they will be developing  a ‘premiere mobile game’ for the Star Wars franchise. The company also opened a new facility is Austin, Texas that will be led by Matthew Hemb and Jeff Hickman. The new studio will partner with existing subsidiary NaturalMotion to produce the game. And be looking to hire over 20 ne employees with a focus on management.

Senior Vice President Jeff Hickman:

“As a longtime Austinite, I know firsthand the immense level of talent and creativity that resides in this beautiful city. We believe that the Austin talent market is highly compatible with our mission of bringing AAA console visuals and deep, compelling gameplay to mobile platforms.”

An excerpt from Hickman’s interview wih GamesBeat follows below.

“These are mobile games that are very console-like and PC-like — in the graphics, in the game play. In the type of audience that loves them. [Zynga CEO] Frank Gibeau and I talked and asked ourselves why we weren’t tapping into the awesome talent in Austin, including those who used to work for us at EA. We have all of these connections to super-talented people.”

Zynga is well known for their mobile games with Zynga Poker and Words With Friends (2) being two of the most popular. I enjoy these types of ganes on the rare occasion I can find time to play them. However, seeing how the game will be Star Wars, maybe I can move some things around when the time comes.
