The Last Starfighter May Get A Sequel Yet

While every decade has films with their own sort of style, there’s something special about the 1980s. The films made during that era had a sense of magic and wonder that is missing from many modern movies. A great example of an 80s classic is The Last Starfighter.

Co-writer on the film, Jonathan Betuel, recently spoke with Moviehole about the sequel. You can check out what he had to say below.

“It looks like we’ll be making the deal to get it going. Gary’s a gifted collaborator, we’ll be writing the script together but it’s taken a long time. I had to go through a process that took years to recapture the rights, but that was recently completed and although nothing is ever clear sailing, it looks like we have a really good opportunity now. So I’m really looking forward to taking it up.”

Betuel also cleared up some rumors about the film being adapted into a series.

“A movie with all the bells and whistles, and it won’t presuppose that you’ve seen the original film. There’ll be references here and there, but it’ll carry the saga forward.”

Co-writing with Rogue One writer Gary Whitta, interesting.

If you have somehow never seen the film it follows a boy who is really good at a video game called Starfighter. He’s so good in fact, that he is recruited by an alien who the video game is actually a combat simulator and that it’s time for him to be a hero.

It’s a fun movie that takes the viewer on a unbelivable adventure involving aliens, video games, and good deal of star fighting. It’s a wild ride for sure especially believing that star Lance Guest actually passed for a teenager.  I’m just having a bit of fun. As I said above The Last Starfighter is a shining example of the gnarly films of the 80s. You can check out the trailer for the film below.
