The Mandalorian Snags Golden Globe Nom For Disney+

The Mandalorian S3 - First BTS Shot - But It 's Not Exciting

A Mandalorian surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one!

The 2021 Golden Globe Nominations were announced today and Disney+ has snagged its first ever nominations. Season 2 of The Mandalorian has been nominated for Best Drama – Television Series. Winning the category, however, may prove more difficult than rescuing Grogu from the clutches of Grand Moff Gideon.

The other television series nominated in for Best Drama – Television series are:

  • The Crown
  • Lovecraft Country
  • The Mandalorian
  • Ozark
  • Ratched

Netflix is well-represented in the category having locked up three of the five slots. With six total nominations, The Crown seems to be the odds-on favorite to win Best Drama – Television Series. Netflix’s other powerhouse, Ozark, is a bonafide contender in its fourth and final season. Ryan Murphy’s mental institution drama Ratched starring Sarah Paulson has a shot. Finally, HBO’s gothic sci-fi road trip show Lovecraft Country can’t be counted out as a dark horse. How will The Mandalorian stack up against the field? We’ve seen Din Djarin win against worse odds.

High Praise Indeed

Jon Favreau commented on The Mandalorian’s nomination shortly after the news broke:

“We are honored to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association alongside so many amazing shows. We are incredibly fortunate to work with such a singular team of collaborators and artists that bring this show to life. On behalf of Kathy, Dave and the entire Mandalorian team — thank you for this honor.”

Meanwhile, star Pedro Pascal took to Twitter to shout out his #MandoFamily:

Likewise, Star Wars fans took to Twitter in droves to praise the nomination.

The Mandalorian wasn’t the only Disney+ show to garner nominations however. The Disney+ adaptation of Hamilton also scored a nom for Best Picture – Musical or Comedy. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda was individually nominated for Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Does Mando, Grogu, and the gang have a shot at winning? Will Hamilton dominate it’s categories? Tune in and find out – The Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on NBC on February 28.
