The Mandalorian Was Apparently The Most In-Demand Series Across All Services At Launch

The Mandalorian was super in-demand at launch.

The Mandalorian did pretty well for itself. I may consider it to be just a so-so show, but fans really dug it. Following two movies that weren’t too well received by fans (The Last Jedi and Solo), they needed to make a move to get fans onboard. The Mandalorian seemed to hit all the right notes for many fans. And it’s not just the Child who exploded in meme culture. Everything from “This is the way” to “I have spoken” have made their way into our pop culture lexicon.

Though while the Star Wars series was clearly a popular one for Disney+, how popular was it at launch compared to all the other big shows on streaming services? “Pretty darn” seems to be the consensus over at Parrot Analytics, a third-party measurement firm. They measured a very specific thing.

Basically, the service looked at all the recent major services at launch. These include Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Peacock. From there, they looked at how anticipated their original shows were at their launch. It was measured using the metric “Times average series.” This means that shows were stacked up against the anticipation of an average series across the board.  Here is how the biggest shows fared at their respective platforms.

Peacock: Brave New World – ~14x
HBO Max: Looney Tunes Cartoons – ~18x
Apple TV+: For All Mankind, Dickinson, See ~19x
Disney+: The Mandalorian – ~55x

As you can see, there’s a big jump up compared to the other original series across the board. Even on Disney+, the show is no. 1 by a wide margin, with The Clone Wars coming in at 21x.

“The Mandalorian is in a class of its own,” says Alejandro Rojas, director of applied analytics at Parrot.

Yeah, I think that goes without saying, The Mandalorian was hotly-anticipated. But that was many months ago. The world has changed. With the second season of The Mandalorian coming, I’d like to know how much people are looking forward to that compared to the first season. Based on online culture, it does feel like it’s made a huge impact. But enough to get people frothing for more?

Time will tell.
