The Mandalorian: What To Expect From Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon

The return of The Mandalorian is just around the corner. The highly-anticipated second season of the hit show will debut on Disney+ next month. While many intriguing storylines will be pursued during the season, the one I am most interested in, is Giancarlo Espositio’s Moff Gideon character.

The villain, well that’s what we will call him for the time being, was seen at the end of the first season emerging from his downed TIE fighter with the ancient, and elusive weapon known as the darksaber. Esposito recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what’s in store for his character as well as the Mando. You can check out what he had to say below.

“I’ll be going toe-to-toe with Mando. It’s an iconic battle. I want to disarm him mentally as well. Who knows? Maybe there’s an opportunity to get him to fight some battles for me. You may think I’m a villain, but I’m trying to harness some energy and some powers for a path that could be best for all. You’ll get to see him be somewhat diplomatic and more of a manipulator.”

Sounds like my kind of villain, the best kind of villain. One that believes what he is doing will leave him on the right side of history. Thanos was one of these types of villains, he believed his ques to be noble and just.

I think that Moff Gideon is going to propel Esposito to the status of a Star Wars legend. A fantastic actor placed in a role nearly perfect for him. Years from now fans may look back at the series as the series that saved Star Wars. It’s certainly done a lot to mend the fanbase after Disney’s mediocre at best sequel trilogy.
