The Marvels Director Nia DaCosta Opens Up A Little On What To Expect

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta opens up a little bit about the upcoming movie. DaCosta spoke with EW recently about her cinematic journey from Little Woods, through Candyman and eventually to The Marvels. DaCosta explains that after her previous movies it’s nice to work on something a little lighter in tone.

“It’s a lot less traumatizing to work on for sure,” she says with a laugh. “But this movie also deals with specific, personal, sometimes sad things. But no, it’s been nice to work in a different world for sure.”

“It’s amazing,” says DaCosta. “[It’s] more [freedom] than I’ve had on anything. It’s great because we’re all just comic-book nerds who want to make a great comic-book movie.”

According to the recent rumor mill, The Marvels is shooting soon and the sets are being built for the actors to arrive. DaCosta herself of course will be hard at work making sure everything is proceeding the way she envisioned. DaCosta will re-team with Teyonah Parris in The Marvels. The pair already worked together on Candyman and of course Parris will be returning as Monica Rambeau, who first appeared in WandaVision this year.

Parris will be joined by star Brie Larson, who will reprise her lead role as Captain Marvel. The pair will also be joined by Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala Khan. Vellani will make her debut though in her own Ms. Marvel Disney+ show. We don’t have an air date for Ms. Marvel yet, so it’s likely Vellani will begin work on the movie before her own show has aired.

What do you think of her comments as The Marvels director Nia DaCosta speaks about the movie for the first time? As always, leave any thoughts you have below if you can.
