The Marvels Won’t Really Follow On From Secret Invasion | Barside Buzz

Annoyingly, according to the latest Barside Buzz, The Marvels movie won’t really follow on from Secret Invasion. Secret Invasion ends with Fury and Varra heading to space to deal with potential Kree peace talks. Therefore, you’d think it leads right into The Marvels? However one insider is saying fans will be shocked how little The Marvels has anything to do with what happened in Secret Invasion.

Check out what Charles Murphy had to say on the subject below.

Now, just to kinda hammer home this point, if there is one character we would expect to see alongside Fury in the movie, it’s Varra, right? However, according to another insider, Varra isn’t in the movie.

CWGST did an AMA on Instagram recently and one of the questions they were asked was, will Varra appear in The Marvels? To which the insider replied simply, “no”.

I get that the focus of the movie will be on the three leads, Fury is a secondary character. However, they absolutely could have hired the Varra actress for a tertiary role. Even a walk on cameo would have worked. What will be more annoying, is if there is no mention by Fury to Danvers about what just happened with the Skrulls on Earth. It won’t decide whether The Marvels is a good movie or not. However, it’s these little details the MCU used to do so well to make it all feel more designed that it ever was.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure The Marvels filmed before Secret Invasion also. So it seems like The Marvels writers probably had limited, if any access to the script for Secret Invasion. By placing Fury back in space at the end of the show, Marvel has done the bare minimum to sell it’s the next direct event that happens.

Marvel Studios used to be better than this, having to make Disney+ shows has in my opinion been the death knell of the franchise. Instead of low budget character driven stories, Disney has opted for big budget 6 hour movies. It simply hasn’t worked, save 1-2 series alone. Moon Knight worked because it was unconnected at that point and fresh. Loki worked because it was a well written story that did connect to everything. Hawkeye also worked pretty well, as it felt like it fit with the rest. The other shows either were all bad, or had poor endings. Secret Invasion may be the biggest fumble of them all. A series which started strong and then abandoned everything it was for a generic Marvel ending.

So, what do you think of the rumor that The Marvels movie won’t really follow on from Secret Invasion‘s story. I’m guessing this does not surprise you, but does it disappoint you? Thoughts below as always.
