The Misfortune Of The Uncharted Film Knows No Bounds

Given how history has played out, it almost feels like the Uncharted adaptation is cursed.

The road to the big screen is never an easy one. In the history of covering movies, I think I’ve only heard one filmmaker talk about how easy making a movie was. That filmmaker was veteran Ridley Scott for his work on The Martian. For 99.9% of other filmmakers, there are always issues. Those issues seem to be further amplified if you’re jumping from the video game medium to the big screen. None of those games seem to have an easy road to being turned into a film.

One such movie that has faced a rocky path is Uncharted. While it’s based on the uber-successful PlayStation franchise, for one reason or another, it’s had a hard time gaining traction. There have been more directors cycle through that thing than the freakin’ Flash movie, and that’s saying something. However, with Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, and Venom director Ruben Fleischer on board, it finally seemed to be getting its groove.

But the video game adaptation gods frowned on that production and cast it down. While apparently appearing on Justin Bieber’s live Q&A on Instagram, Holland broke his silence on the film’s progress.

“We showed up for our first day of shooting and they shut us down. We were in Berlin.”

At that point, it would have been difficult not to laugh at the whole situation. Of course, the reason behind it all is very serious. With the COVID-19 pandemic, countless productions in Hollywood were delayed. It’s all been done in the name of safety. However, given the history of this movie, it’s hard not to think the darn thing is cursed. After all these years, it was finally set to go in front of cameras, only to be batted down by the cruel b**ch that is the pandemic.

Regardless, I’m sure once the pandemic subsides, production will start up again. Holland and Wahlberg are still attached and with the script coming from Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins, I’m sure this is the one that will finally stick.

What do you think of all this? Is the Uncharted movie actually cursed? Let us know your thoughts down below!
