As of this writing, the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series is in the midst of a delay. As has been reported by many outlets, the scripts are at the heart of the whole thing. From what I’ve heard, they needed some extra love, to begin with, and after a round of rewrites were done, the scripts had somehow gotten even worse. So, yeah, we have some time before the Obi-Wan series will hit the Disney streamer.
But what can we expect from it? Sadly, I come bearing no specific story details, but instead some money and structural details. First off, in a move that will likely surprise no one, the plan was for the series to feature eight episodes, not unlike how The Mandalorian was handled. However, what I do find interesting about the upcoming Obi-Wan series is its scale.

I’ve heard that the budget on each of the eight episodes was to average around $25 million apiece. That’s right. $25 million. To put that into perspective, Game of Thrones averaged around $15 million per episode in its final season — and those were hour-and-a-half-long episodes. Similarly, The Mandalorian had a reported $15 million per episode, so this is a step up. While we don’t know the length of the Obi-Wan episodes, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them hover around thirty to forty minutes, as its predecessor did. Needless to say, Disney is putting some major cheese into these series.
One thing to keep in mind is that this was what the plan was for the Obi-Wan series before the delay. That being said, while things can change, I don’t expect them to pull back on the budget. This is one series they absolutely need to get right, and I don’t think they’d skimp out because of delays.
