The Official Trailer For Bel-Air Shows A Dark Re-Imagining Of Fresh Prince

The reboot of a favorite 90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is almost here. Peacock released the official trailer for Bel-Air. Take a look!

Bel-Air Synopsis

Set in modern-day America, Peacock’s new one-hour drama series Bel-Air reimagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.

The Trailer

I actually had a bit of an issue with the trailer. While I do like the idea of a serious reboot, I feel like this new series is too dark. Will came to Bel-Air to get a fresh start and get his life on track, but his derailment looks like the train’s also rolling downhill. In the sitcom, Uncle Phil was a strict man giving Will some structure he needed and Carlton was friendly. But this new series has both being pretty cold. Luckily, Aunt Viv, Hilary, and Ashley are warm and accepting. The treatment that some family and peers gives him makes him run away. His emotions are already raw after what happened in Philadelphia. Kids need to be loved and nurtured. The 90s sitcom was something so special that had so much love and comedy with some serious struggles sprinkled in. I didn’t want such a dark re-imagining.

I love the original show and this new series isn’t what I was looking for, but I still want to give it a try. Bel-Air will be released on Peacock on February 13.
