The Orville Renewed for a Second Season

Fox’s The Orville has been renewed for a second season, Variety reports. The show stars Seth MacFarlane as Captain Ed Mercer, who leads the crew of the exploratory union ship, The Orville, on missions through space. Fox’s president of entertainment, Michael Thorn, had the following to say about the show.

“Once again Seth has struck a powerful chord with viewers. He has delivered a series full of optimism, drama and his trademark humor. We want to thank him and the rest of the talented cast, as well as the producers and crew, for an incredible first season. We can’t wait to see where The Orville travels in the second.”

Joining MacFarlane’s Captain Mercer, is his first mate and ex-wife, Commander Kelly Grayson, played by Adrienne Palicki, Lieutenant Bortis, played by Peter Macon, and Lieutenant Gordon Malloy, played by Scott Grimes.

I have found a few of the episodes to have some really cool ideas and an almost Twilight Zone type feel to them. While I enjoy it the show, I do agree that at times the show has a difficulty deciding whether it wants to be a comedy or drama. Having both is absolutely ok, most shows do, but finding the right balance is the key, yet, The Orville still seems to be working out the finer details of that aspect.
