It’s been less than a week since The Punisher Season 2 exploded onto Netflix, and yet I’m still waiting for the inevitable announcement that the show has officially been canceled by Netflix. It’s a sad world we live in where that’s the case, but if Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil getting canceled is any indication, that’s the path we’re likely heading down in the near future.
And yet, a sliver of hope still remains for Marvel’s most dangerous vigilante — at least in the eyes of some fans, many of whom have been celebrating this recent season of episodes. But what does the Punisher showrunner Steve Lightfoot have to say about all this? While he didn’t give us any update on what he’s expecting in terms of a third season, he did seem open to the idea of bringing in characters like Daredevil and Kingpin into a potential Season 3, as he revealed to Heroic Hollywood:
“Yeah. All those guys are great. Obviously Daredevil and Punisher have a lot of history and story between them in the comic books. So it would be great to dig into some of that. Also villains like the Kingpin who was featured in quite a lot of the Punisher books as well. So it would be fantastic to get some of those guys back into the show if we can make it work.”

Again, this isn’t worth taking to the bank as gospel. All we know is there are is potential for these aspects to come together in a future season, and that the showrunner of The Punisher is aware of it. Whether or not Marvel and Netflix want to pony up another season’s worth of funds to make it happen is another story altogether.
