Now, as you can see with your own eyes, it does not say trailer. It simply says, as quoted above, ‘exclusive early look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power‘. That absolutely could take the form of a trailer, or it could be a few scenes shown from one of the early episodes. Or, it could be a 30 second shot of someone’s eyeball that we all obsess over for another month, before a real trailer is released?
However, given the fact we already have a teaser, I guess fans, rightly or wrongly, kinda expect more the second time around. The show does launch this September so marketing will ramp up eventually.
Deadline also reported this news first as an exclusive a few days ago. Here is what they had to say.
The expansive fantasy series is confirmed for the Comic-Con International: San Diego in July, with a panel featuring showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay and stars taking the stage at the convention’s flagship Hall H.

Given all the rumors that DC and Marvel won’t have much presence at SDCC this year, again, I’m glad that Amazon are using the convention to hype up a new entry in the Tolkien Mythology. There are not a ton of fantasy comics out there, it’s mostly books, or books adapted into comics. However these days SDCC, like most con’s, is not necessarily about comic books. Instead they are a celebration of geekdom, whatever you are into.
Right now, I’ll say that any coverage of this panel will be my highlight of SDCC ’22. Not that I’ll be attending, but hopefully it will end up mostly online? It usually does.
