The Rise Of Skywalker Co-Writer Chris Terrio On His Future Plans

If you’re wondering why I haven’t been writing any articles relating to The Rise of Skywalker, it’s because believe it or not I still haven’t seen the film. I usually go opening night but a number of factors have prevented me from doing so this time around, though I am going tomorrow night.

C0-writer of the film, Chris Terrio recently spoke with AwardsDaily and talked about what he plans to do next, after having what could be considered the biggest writing job ever in Hollywood, finishing the Skywalker Saga, you can check out what he had to say below.

“Well, as you can tell, I can’t quite stop talking about Star Wars, so I’ll probably be grabbing random people on the street and trying to talk to them about it. I’m working on going back to the kind of material that is more like Argo. Stories without so much orthodoxy, maybe. Without so many characters. I think there are about 24 characters in The Rise of Skywalker. About 16 of those have fairly significant or traceable character arcs. That’s not an easy task, obviously. You have to look to films like Robert Altman films for inspiration as to how you can keep track of them all. There will never be another film like this where you’re balancing so many characters and plot points that go back 42 years. So, I’m eager to do something a bit smaller, a bit more less populist, and a bit more in the tone of some of my earlier work.”

I can’t really blame the guy for wanting to go back to smaller films, at least ones smaller than Star Wars. There had to have been a huge amount of pressure while writing Rise of Skywalker and I imagine a person can only have such a thing hang over there head every so often. Even knowing you won’t please every Star Wars fan, you still want to try to please as many as you can, and that alone, in my opinion, could drive a person over the edge.
