The Sandlot. Those of us that were coming of age at the time of the film’s release, and enjoyed playing baseball, fell in love with the film, and it’s characters. If you haven’t uttered the now-iconic line yourself (you probably have) chances are you’ve heard your friend say it. I’m of course referring to, “You’re killing me Smalls!,” from the beloved 90s film.
One might think that actor Patrick Renna, who played Hamilton Porter in the film, has a similar attitude toward the line and character as the subject of my previous article, Thomas Wilson. However, while I don’t blame Wilson one bit, Renna has taken a different approach. Check out what he said below while speaking with CinemaBlend below.
“You know, I don’t think there was ever a point where it drove me crazy. If you say anything to me before my coffee, pretty much anything will drive me crazy. But other than that, the cool thing about it is when people say it, it just means I did my job as an actor, and there’s something so lasting that has been part of so many people’s lives that you can’t help but be honored and flattered by it. I think to look at it any other way just isn’t looking at the glass half full.”

That’s the attitude I would take if I were in such a situation. I’ve always thought that it’s better to be typecast or remembered for a single role, than not at all. I am 100% the guy who will yell lines at actors if I see them. Except they’re usually more obscure, and I wouldn’t pick such a well known, or cliched line.
The Sandlot is just one of those films that must to be watched. And if you find a friend or relative hasn’t seen it, you do your best to make them watch it.
