Percy Jackson Series Adaptation Coming to Disney+

The iconic Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan had a big-screen adaptation from 20th Century Fox back in 2010. This film was titled, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief which was directed by Chris Columbus. A sequel titled Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, directed by Thor Freudenthal was released three years later. The films starred Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson.

Now ten years later the Percy Jackson series is ready to make a comeback on the small screen. Via Twitter, Riordan and his wife Becky announced that Percy Jackson would be getting a new adaptation as a series on Disney+. There will be an adaptation of all five original books. The first of seasons will be based around the first book, The Lightning Thief. You can check out the video and a statement from Riordan below!

The book series was published by Hyperion. It follows Jackson who finds out that his father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the Sea. Due to this he goes to Camp Half-Blood, a training ground for demigods. It is here where he encounters many adventures. He and his friends Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena and Grover Underwood, a satyr, fight several Greek monsters. These monsters are in service of the Titan Kronos, who is trying to take down the Olympian gods.

If done correctly this could be a huge hit with young people as the book series never seems to go out of style. I also think that this property will work a lot better as a series rather than feature films. Are you excited for a Percy Jackson series on Disney+? Let us know in the comment section below!
