Six decades after the USS Enterprise first went where no man had gone before, Star Trek came home to Hollywood on Thursday, September 24, for the world premiere of The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television and the World. Presented by Moonshots, the evening put stars and creators from across the franchise on one red carpet, then closed with a fireside chat between executive producer William Shatner and Moonshots’ Peter Diamandis.
Executive produced by Shatner, the franchise’s original Captain James T. Kirk, The Sixty-Year Mission is an insider history of the show that spent 60 years challenging, provoking, and redefining what television can be. Writer-director Mark A. Altman builds the film around exclusive, all-new interviews.
Those include all three living stars of The Original Series: Shatner, George Takei and Walter Koenig. Stars of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Strange New Worlds join them, along with writers, directors, producers and critics.
Together they trace how the show’s bold artistic choices, behind-the-scenes conflicts and groundbreaking ideas combined to create an enduring television classic. Michael S. Broder of distributor Galaxie Pictures and screenwriter Ashley E. Miller (Thor, X-Men: First Class) serve as executive producers.

Many of the red carpet guests were the who’s who of Star Trek legends, including William Shatner (Kirk of Original Star Trek), Denise Crosby (Tasha Yar of Star Trek: The Next Generation), Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), John de Lancie (Q of Star Trek: The Next Generation), Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and Todd Stashwick (Liam Shaw of Star Trek: Picard).
The Sixty-Year Mission: How Star Trek Changed Television and the World will be in select theaters on Friday, October 9, at Regal Cinemas.
