Before Game of Thrones HBO was known for three things… The Wire, The Sopranos, and being an overpriced add on for cable and satellite services. It also fueled a large chunk of blank VCR tape sales. Don’t know what a VCR is? Go ask your parents while I cry into my Glow Worm. You don’t know that either?!?
My age aside, I loved The Sopranos. It is actually one of my all-time favorite TV Dramas. I don’t even mind the ending.

A little while ago it was announced that a prequel film for the beloved series was in the works. It originally had a working Title of Newark and would follow a young Tony Soprano and an often mentioned character from the original show, Dickie Moltisanti. Now we know the movie will be called The Many Saints of Newark.
The movie will be a theatrical release, hitting on September 25th, 2020, and star Alessandro Nivola, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, and Michael Gandolfini. Nivola will play Moltisanti and Gandolfini will play the younger version of the role that his real father played in the original series, Tony Soprano.
It will take place in the 1960s during the Newark riots. This was a period of violence in 1967 from July 12th through July 17th in which 26 people lost their lives. Racial issues were at the forefront of this event and were often a part of The Sopranos too.
