The Suicide Squad is a masterpiece?

What made David Ayer’s Suicide Squad so disappointing is just how amazing the concept is. It’s one based around a Dirty Dozen-like premise, but with a supervillain skin. That, in and of itself, is ripe for great content, and the Ayer film seemed like it would take full advantage of that. Sadly, what we got was underwhelming. Luckily, Warner Bros. was smart enough to know the problem lay in the execution and not the concept itself.

Enter James Gunn. Following a temporary firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn hopped on board The Suicide Squad. Given the work he did on the previously-mentioned Marvel franchise, he seemed like a great candidate to bring Task Force X to life. The recent FanDome event only highlighted just how perfect he was for the job. Now, if we’re to believe the word of scooper Daniel Richtman, it sounds like viewers think so as well.

Richtman took to Twitter to share the following bold statement.

“People who saw The Suicide Squad described it as James Gunn’s MASTERPIECE.”

While Richtman did not elaborate beyond this statement, but this claim isn’t ridiculous. We have heard other outlets like The Illuminerdi and DCEU Mythic discuss test screenings in the past week or two, so we can assume Richtman’s comments are somehow related to either those screenings or more recent ones. If nothing else, we know for a fact that people have seen a cut of the movie.

But, as with all rumors, take it with a grain of salt. While we know the film has been screened on some level, we don’t know how on-the-level Richtman’s sources are. They could be a bunch of randos claiming to have seen the movie, for all we know. If they did see it, their opinions could be way off from the mainstream. And we can’t forget the fact that the movie can change between now and release.

Regardless, this is still good news, and will likely get James Gunn fans even more excited for The Suicide Squad. Are you excited to see what Gunn will offer us in his first DC outing? Sound off down below!
