The Suicide Squad: Idris Elba’s Character Has A Daughter And That Means He Could Be Playing Deathstroke

Idris Elba is a highly sought after actor, and for good reason. He’s talented, handsome, and has a deep voice that can be useful for lots of different types of characters. He’s versatile. It makes sense that WB wants to get him into one of their DC properties, especially after his untimely demise (and underuse) in the MCU. WB has a habit of wanting to borrow from Marvel (looks at a photo of James Gunn) and try to recreate what the house Stan built has done, but I prefer their approach with Joker where they focus on making the best DC movie they can without any concern about what the competition is doing. That brings us back to Elba and his casting in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad which is a confusing reboot with several returning actors from the original movie but completely ignoring it. Originally thought to be replacing Will Smith as Deadshot, Elba now seems to be playing another character with a daughter.

Yeah I know, Deadshot had a daughter too so what is going on here? Geeks Worldwide got an exclusive tip that Gunn is casting for a female teenage thief whose father, Elba, is in prison. The codename for the character is Drew right now, but that is likely a random placeholder and not a clue to the character’s identity.

GWW speculates that Deathstroke is a real possibility for Elba as he has a daughter named Rose Wilson who has a tenuous relationship with her father. She’s been both an anti-hero of sorts and a straight-up villain in the comics. If Elba is indeed playing Deathstroke that would bring into question what the plans are for Joe Manganiello’s version of the character. At one point he was going to have his own film and has only appeared in a cameo at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Honestly, I think WB and DC should forgo the connected DCEU, claim a multiverse, and just make movies that work for that/those characters. Every three or four years make a Justice League movie and use the multiverse idea to explain why some actors are different than they are in that character’s individual film.

Another possibility mentioned by GWW is Sportsmaster. I do not know a lot about this character but there have been at least two versions in the comics, Lawrence Crock and Victor Gover. Crock had a daughter named Artemis who helped break her father out of prison. Gover is similar to Marvel’s Taskmaster and is a former Football player. GWW thinks that WB and DC will make an amalgam of these two characters if they go the Sportsmaster route.
