Straight into potential SPOILERS folks, be warned!
Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, rumored for She-Hulk, and played by Jason Segel! Now, I’m sure this is not the first time you’ve heard either the Thing in She-Hulk rumor, or that Segel (Marshall from How I met Your Mother) is attached. However up until now, I’ve felt it fell into wild rumor category.
However the DisInsider show recently covered this as their rumor of the week. In the video below jump to the 43:00 minute mark for the details.
The hosts refer to the rumor like it is information they have heard that they buy. However they also stress they have not covered this as any kind of exclusive because they say they cannot verify the information with another source. The crux here is that they are convinced Jason Segel will play Ben Grimm in She-Hulk. Admittedly they have no idea whether this is the Fantastic Four casting, or some multiversal situation like Krasinski in MoM.
As for the Fantastic Four themselves, the guys believe there could be an announcement at D23 for the cast and director. They won’t talk too much yet about director names though.

Ok, so DisInsider don’t have an infallible record, no one does. I would say they have a good hit rate for scoops though. Therefore I’m kind elevating this one from wild rumor to a Barside Buzz. I guess we’ll find out soon enough whether this is legit, after all August see’s She-Hulk hit screens.
As for whether Segel is a good or bad choice as Ben Grimm? I genuinely at this point have no opinion. I certainly would never have associated the character of Marshall with this role, but that is kinda just a character. I’ve seen Segel in many other projects and never had any complaints so far.
For me, Ben is one of the hardest characters to get right in all of Marvel. I’ve always loved Thing. Fantastic Four was always one of my favorite comics as a kid. If I was to rate them, my comic preferences were, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and then Fantastic Four. Outside of Batman I was never that into DC Comics as much as Marvel, but those were the ones I always picked up when I could. As characters go, Ben is undoubtedly my favorite of the Fantastic Four.
I just want Marvel to get Ben right this time. Therefore, I’ll trust in Mr. Feige and see if this rumor pans out or not? What do you think of The Thing rumored for She-Hulk played by Jason Segel? As always, leave it below or over on Discord.
