Earlier in 2018, it was announced that Tom Hanks had been cast to play the legendary children’s advocate Fred Rogers, known as Mr. Rogers on his PBS series Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, in an upcoming biopic. While the internet was a buzz about what is considered perfect casting for the film, a title had yet to be released. Won’t You Be My Neighbor? was already taken for the documentary about Rogers that was released shortly after the Hanks news. At one point, there were rumors of the film being titled You Are My Friend, but they were never verified.

Now, according to Comingsoon.net, an official title for the film has been released: A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, which is a line taken from the theme Rogers sang at the beginning of each of his episodes. The film will be directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?, The Diary Of A Teenage Girl) based on a screenplay by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster (Transparent, The Motel Life, Beautiful Ruins) which was featured on the Black List back in 2013. Joining Hanks in the cast will be Matthew Rhys (The Americans) and Chris Cooper (The Town, The Kingdom).
A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood is set to be released nationwide October 18th, 2019.
