“… enemies can become friends.”

King Ezekiel, Morgan, Richard and representatives of the Kingdom on one side. Representatives of the Saviors on the other side. What is a simple delivering of goods develops into another volatile standoff. In the end, Richard hands over his gun and Morgan has his staff taken from him by the Saviors. King Ezekiel is warned that if this type of interaction continues, Richard will be first on deck. As they return to the Kingdom, Daryl makes another attempt to turn Morgan, but it is Richard who hears Daryl… and shows him what he has planned.

Richard and Daryl load up on ammunition and Molotov cocktails and make their way toward the side of a street. While explaining his plan, Richard mentions this strong woman living in the woods. After his continuous demanding, Richard reveals to Daryl that the woman is Carol. Realizing the plan would harm Carol, Daryl wants no part of it and with a few swings of his fists, two Saviors vehicles are able to pass without any interference. The two men stand apart, Richard’s rifle and Daryl’s crossbow pointed at the other. Daryl threatens to kill Richard if anything happens to Carol. Richard states he’ll die for the Kingdom. Daryl tells him to do so, lowers his cross bow and leaves.

Meanwhile, Rick, Michonne, Aaron, Tara and Rosita are in the custody of a new group. The leader states that they now own them and give them the opportunity to buy their lives back. Before any deal, Rick asks for proof of life on Gabriel. Once he’s presented, Rick attempts to form an alliance with them. When the group declines and a fight breaks out, Gabriel takes one hostage, Tamiel, with a knife to her throat. As everyone takes a step back, Gabriel explains that if this group aligns with Rick’s Survivors and defeat the Saviors, all their goods would be theirs; that all things are possible through Rick. The leader agrees to talk to Rick alone and takes him to a high point of their property, revealing the number of hills made up of everything they find. The leader, Janis, wants to follow Rick but needs proof that he’s for real… and throws him down the hill.

Rick picks himself up and realizes he’s in a closed off section. The other Survivors can only watch as Rick has to battle with an armor-plated, spear-protruding walker. With a little verbal coaching from Michonne, Rick pulls at the garbage walls, causing objects to fall onto and pin down the walker. Rick quickly stabs the walker multiple times in the head and looks up to the leader. Rick has passed the test. A deal is made and an alliance is formed with the Scavengers. The Survivors are given a vehicle and must deliver guns to the new group in order to keep their union.

King Ezekiel and a few of his knights visit Carol, delivering food. She accepts it, then tells them to leave. She hears a knock at her door and when she opens it, standing before her is Daryl. As evening sets in, Carol explains to Daryl why she had to leave; how all the killing would eventually destroy her. She then turns to Daryl and asks if the Saviors came and if everyone is okay. Seeing her face, tears rolling down, Daryl tells her that they defeated the Saviors, setup a deal with the remaining few and that everyone is okay. The two hug and Daryl leaves.

Daryl is sitting in front of Shiva’s cage as the beautiful tiger paces around. Morgan approaches and Daryl makes one more plea to have Morgan turn the King’s decision. Morgan says he cannot do it. Morgan also realizes that Daryl did not tell Carol, which makes the two of them more alike than Daryl would admit. Daryl gives Shiva one last pet of the head and tells Morgan he is leaving in the morning to return to Hilltop and prepare for what is coming. The last shot of the episode is in the morning as Daryl walks through the gates of the Kingdom with both Morgan and Richard looking on.

It is going to be interesting to see what develops from this moment on. Will Morgan try to alter the King’s choice? Will the Kingdom remain neutral? Can the Survivors trust their “new best friends”, the Scavengers? Does Jerry make great cobbler? You’ll just have to keep watching to find out.
