The Willow Series Is Officially Underway, Gary Whitta Interested In Joining?

The era of fantasy TV is fast approaching, and with that, why not actually bring back a fantasy film franchise that somehow managed to be good in a time where fantasy films were often quite bad? I’m talking about Willow, the Ron Howard-directed Lucasfilm movie that fans have adored for decades now. A film where Warwick Davis memorably starred in.

Howard had been teasing for years the possibility of a sequel, but more recently, it had been revealed that there would be a follow-up series that would likely debut on Disney+. Now, we’re one step closer to seeing that happen, as Solo: A Star Wars Story screenwriter Jon Kasdan posted the following.

RELATED – Jon Kasdan Developing Willow Sequel For Disney+

“The office is open,” reads the tweet, along with the picture of a cord board and hat with “Willow” written on it. This seems to solidify everything we’ve been hearing, including comments from Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, which confirmed Kasdan’s involvement in the project.

But what does this mean? How far along are they? Are they in pre-production or are they starting up a writer’s room? My guess would be the latter, as while Kasdan may be penning the pilot, there could be a lot more to discuss. Then again, maybe they’ll surprise us and reveal all episodes have been written.

One interesting follow-up is that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story writer Gary Whitta replied to the tweet.

So, what does this mean? Is he simply expressing his interest in joining the team or is this a cute way for them to announce his involvement as well?

Regardless, you have every reason to be excited. So be excited!
