Yesterday at TGA CDPR showed the first The Witcher 4 teaser trailer which revealed Ciri is the main protagonist. The Witcher 4 has been in development for a while, but we recently shared news that production was moving into a more active state. Since a new The Witcher trilogy was first announced fans have been wondering who we would play as?
It was essentially common knowledge that Geralt would appear, but we would not play as him this time. The possibilities as far as fans saw them were twofold. Ciri taking over as the main character, which would be a continuation of the same story. Or, a brand new playable character, perhaps another Witcher. Well, now we have our answer, we will play as Ciri. Check out the teaser trailer below. Fans of the series will feel right at home with the ‘quest’ we play out.
There are some small section of fans who have got angry about the fact they have to play as a girl this time around. I mean, come on folks, luckily it’s a small vocal minority. Witcher fans would know that Ciri is the natural next step. I’ve seen some comments that Ciri is ‘not a Witcher’. Clearly these people never got the ‘good ending’ of The Witcher 3 where Ciri literally becomes a Witcher when Geralt retires.

The only reservation I think long time fans have had to playing as Ciri is the fact she’s a bit OP compared to Geralt. I mean Ciri literally has abilities no one else has in that world. Though, the fact we don’t see any ‘blinking’ in the trailer has fans wondering whether CDP might ‘nerf’ Ciri a little for the games. Other criticism I’ve seen is that Ciri looks different. Honestly this just looks like 10+ years later to me and therefore Ciri looks older. Plus this is early footage and could be very different by the time the game arrives.
