If you’ve been keeping track of all the online news and rumors surrounding The Witcher, you know the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has been keen to jump into seasons ahead. There have been reports of preproduction of the second season, but no official word yet on whether or not it was in the bag. That being said, with the first season not even out yet, it’s understandable.
Well, it sounds like Netflix isn’t waiting on that first season’s performance, after all. According to TheWrap, the streaming giant has essentially given the go-ahead for Season 2, with the production set to begin in early 2020, with the plan for the season to hit in 2021.

The next season, like the first, will consist of eight episodes and will see Hissrich’s return to the showrunner’s chair.
“I’m so thrilled that before fans have even seen our first season, we are able to confirm that we’ll be returning to The Continent again to continue telling the stories of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri,” Hissrich said in a statement.
She also took to Twitter to announce the new development.
I’m so thrilled to announce: Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will be back for more adventures… in Season Two.
I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us. ❤️⚔️🐺 pic.twitter.com/evWoHvUl1e

While we have yet to see an episode of the series, the trailers have been promising, and it is clear that the filmmakers and cast are very passionate about the source material, so I’m hopeful it’ll all work out.
