The Witcher Season 2 gets a new Eskel in Basil Eidenbenz. Last week we brought you news that Thue Rasmussen could no longer play Eskel in the show. Rasmussen had already shot scenes as Eskel before the COVID lockdown. However, last week Rasmussen had announced he had to step away from the role due to the new guidelines and restrictions around COVID. I knew Netflix would move fast on Rasmussen’s replacement and here we are.
Deadline has revealed that the new Eskel is Basil Eidenbenz (Victoria). Eidenbenz has already been at the set filming, yet was only rumored as a possible Eskel replacement until now. Eidenbenz is a relatively unknown performer to me, so we shall see how well he does as Eskel. We don’t know how big a role the character of Eskel plays in The Witcher Season 2, but based on the information/speculation below, you can judge for yourself. A lot of time is expected to be spent in Kaer Morhen in Season 2, including a big battle. As Kaer Morhen is home to the School of the Wolf, it is expected Eskel’s will have a sizable role in Season 2. This could be one of those roles that just catapults Eidenbenz in to the public consciousness. I’m sure Rasmussen is kicking himself he could not complete this shoot. Eskel is also a role that could be recurring for many seasons of The Witcher. I also expect The Witcher to increase in popularity as the seasons go on. Season 1 wasn’t well loved by most critics, although I gave it a glowing review. However, when it comes to the fans, well, it seems most of them absolutely loved it?
