I’m sad to report that The Witcher Season 2 loses a Witcher due to rescheduling caused by COVID-19 restrictions. The important part of Eskel was set to be played by Thue Rasmussen. However, the actor has taken to Instagram to announce that he has to step down from the role due to the rescheduling. Check out the post below.
As of right now, Netflix themselves have not made any announcement about Rasmussen’s replacement. With the Season currently back filming, it must be a priority to recast the role of Eskel. Eskel, like Geralt, is from the School of the Wolf. Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer are expected to spend a lot of time at Kaer Morhen this season. Kaaer Morhen is also home to the school of the Wolf and therefore Eskel. Whilst I would not exactly call Eskel and Geralt friends, they are reasonably close as Witcher’s go. The Witcher life after all is a pretty solitary one, but Eskel definitely plays his part throughout the stories that The Witcher is based on.

It’s not like the role of Eskel is one that could be easily downgraded for Season 2 or removed altogether? What’s more is that Rasmussen has clearly already filmed scenes as Eskel from before the lockdown. Those scenes are going to have to be filmed again once the role is recast I would guess? All we can do is wait for some official announcement from Netflix. For the bigger roles such as Eskel, a press release was pushed for each new cast member. It would make sense for Netlfix do the same thing again once a new actor has been cast, but who knows?
