Fox’s Gotham will return in 2019. Over the show’s five season run, we have seen many popular characters from the Batman mythos including Penguin, Riddler, Dr, Freeze, and NOT the Joker. We’ve seen Oswald Cobblepot grow from a meek umbrella holder to a crime boss into one of the most powerful villains in Gotham City. Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Cobblepot/The Penguin on the series spoke with ComicBook.com and said the fifth and final season of Gotham will bring us a more traditional version of the character.

“I can’t spoil anything specific but definitely there are parts of the traditional iconography of the Penguin that are coming into play this year. We’ve done everything else with this character it has its own unique twists and it’s also everything is earned and everything makes sense this character is turning into the traditional Penguin that we all know and so we see it visually as well as emotionally.”

While speaking to Syfy at New York Comic Con, when asked if he will be wearing a fat suit, Taylor responded, “Yes! Yeah, I get chunky.” This will certainly make Taylor more resemble the classic Penguin that we all know and love from various other media. Also confirmed at NYCC by show-runner John Stephens was that the show will see a time jump of ten years during the last episode. So it looks like we are in store for a chubby Penguin, at least toward the end of the season. I also feel it’s likely that the character will don the monocle and perhaps even the long cigarette he is so well known for.

One of my favorite things about this version of the character is the Penguin’s trademark limp.
