Three New Star Wars Movies Announced At SWC Including Rey Follow Up

Daisy Ridley confirms the script for Rey Sequel movie still not ready, however she still expects it to start filming this year or early next.

We have three new Star Wars movies announced today at SWC, including a Rey follow up. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed movies coming from Shareen Obaid-Chinoy which we knew about already, plus one from Dave Filoni and another by James Mangold.

Here are the details as per StarWars.com.

Today during Lucasfilm’s Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that three new live-action Star Wars films are on the way. Helming the movies are James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face).

James Mangold’s movie will go back to the dawn of the Jedi, while Dave Filoni’s will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be set after the events of Rise of Skywalker, and feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.

So, we have a sequel coming to the sequel trilogy that will see Rey rebuild the Jedi Order. Makes sense, and frankly was the only way for it to go. Then again, I think I’d have preferred to jump 200 years after Rey’s death. We’re also getting that big MandoVerse movie we’ve speculated on for a long time. As we know, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have indicated this would not be the end of this MandoVerse, but this will at least be a big event movie.

As for Mangold’s movie, I guess this is the most ‘out there’ one we have. So far very little has been told about the dawn of the Jedi. We’d be going back pre-Old Republic and likely Pre-Sith. Very interested in this one though for sure. Probably the one I’m least interested in is the Rey movie. However that’s due to the bad taste left over from the sequels. Can fans get over that and get on board with a new movie? I guess we  shall find out?

What do you think of the three new Star Wars movies announced today? So far we have no dates, but we think 2025 will be when the Rey focused movie will drop. Which are you most to least excited for? We have a James Mangold dawn of the Jedi movie, a Sharemeen Obaid-Chinoy Rey follow up movie and a Dave Filoni MandoVerse movie to look forward to. Thoughts below as always.
