Todd Phillips Says His Upcoming ‘Joker’ Doesn’t Follow “Anything” From The Comics

If there’s one thing comic book fans love, it’s when a film adaptation of the content doesn’t follow the or adhere at all to the works it’s based on. Wait, that’s can’t be right, oh yeah, it’s the other way around. While the trailers have looked good, and have many fans interested in the film, Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker doesn’t follow the comics, at all.

Phillips recently spoke with Empire Online and was pretty blunt about the film being more of a story about a Joker type guy, than the actual Clown Prince of Crime. You can check out what he had to say below.

“We didn’t follow anything from the comic-books, which people are gonna be mad about. We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from. That’s what was interesting to me. We’re not even doing Joker, but the story of becoming Joker. It’s about this man.”

I will let Count Dooku convey my thoughts on the matter to you.

All joking aside, this news hasn’t diminished my interest for the film,  in fact, it has increased it. Though I’ve always had a feeling that this will film has potential to be hit or miss, and this news heightens that possibility. Call me Captain Obvious if you’d like, but, it comes down to execution.

Most of us are anxious to see Joaquin Phoenix’s take on what is thought to be one of the more stressful roles to take on in Hollywood. Phoenix is also known for throwing himself into roles and completey losing himself in a character
