Tom Holland Made It Through Several Auditions For The Role of Finn In The Force Awakens

Tom Holland was almost found his big break in a galaxy far, far away instead of in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor who’s now famous the world over for being the definitive(in my opinion) web-slinging teenager Spider-Man.

Holland recently mentioned that he made it through a few rounds of auditions for the role of Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You can check out what he had to say while speaking with Backstage below.

“I’ve had quite a few. I’ve read the wrong lines at the wrong audition before. I remember my audition for Star Wars, I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny. And I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called. Yeah, I obviously didn’t get the part. That wasn’t my best moment.”

I’d say it all worked out for the best, as far as casting anyway. Though it’s fun to think about Tom Holland in some of the scenes from The Force Awakens. He also plays a nervous guy on the level of Don Knotts. Looking back I would assume Holland is happy with the way things turned out. With his Spidey films being more well-received than Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy.

The role of Finn ultimately went to John Boyega. And having seen Boyega in Attack the Block, I was happy to see him be cast in Star Wars. Unfortunately, in my opinion, I also feel he was underutilized as an actor. The same goes for Finn as a character.
