Tom Holland Says The Main Villain Of Spider-Man: Brand New Day Remains A Secret – Is He Right?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day star Tom Holland says the movie's main villain remains a secret. Let's explore if that is actually the case or not.

In a recent red carpet interview Spider-Man: Brand New Day star Tom Holland says the movie’s main villain remains a secret. Let’s explore if that is actually the case or not. Folks, I will begin here with Holland’s interview and the transcript. I will then post a potential SPOILER warning BEFORE we get in speculation and rumors.

As you can see below, Holland was interviewed by a Tik Tok content creator, which has been shared on ‘old people social media’ for the likes of me. Check it out below, or go to Tik Tok through the link if you are a young trend setter, unlike me.

Here is the transcript of what Holland said,

“The villain that we have in this new movie, which is still very much a secret, is, I think, unlike anything we’ve seen in one of these movies before.”

That’s the official news folks and I guess no matter which you look at it, the main villain has certainly not been officially revealed. Whether it remains a secret is debateable, but we will have that debate below.

Potential SPOILERS Below

Okay, let’s break down what we know so far, or what the rumors all say. Sadie Sink is apparently playing Jean grey and has signed a deal to appear in Secret Wars, X-Men and two other MCU movies in a five picture deal.

The trailers so far are painting Sink’s character as the villain. However, does it make sense for Jean to be a villain, then go on to be a hero in the very next film out?

There’s also Tombstone who certainly is being kept quiet officially, but his design has leaked and you can find a link to an action figure of the character in the related section below. Marvin Jones III plays the character in Brand New Day as was broke by Deadline and other trades some time ago. Is Tombstone the main villain? Well, the rumors tell us, no. From what we can tell on the Barside Buzz for this film, Tombstone is indeed a mob boss and may well be the one controlling and bankrolling Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang et al. So we hear Tombstone has only a small role, but perhaps is set up as a future, or ongoing villainous menace to Spidey.

It’s not the Hulk, and he and others appear to be under the control of someone, which is rumored to be Jean Grey as we discussed above.

My speculation is that the real villain of Spider-Man: Brand New Day is William ‘Bill’ Metzger, who runs Damage Control. We’ve already seen hints of the DODC being… off in the likes of Ironheart and other shows. Metzger is of course a classic X-Men villain, who absolutley despises all Mutants, and Jean is…

Here’s what I think is really happening, and this isn’t a spoiler as I only know what I covered in the rumors part above.

Jean is being imprisoned by Metzger and DODC and being forced to use her powers to cause panic in the streets of NYC. You may ask, why is he doing this? Because he knows about Mutants and he wants to turn the public against them now to give the DODC the powers to keep them contained. Spider-Man will eventually find out this mysterious villain he’s been fighting who knows his name is Peter Parker isn’t the real threat. Eventually Spidey and Punisher will break Jean out of her imprisonment. Then she’ll join Spider-Man (Holland) in Secret Wars, then go to the X Mansion at Secret Wars end for the beginning of the MCU’s X-Men.

That’s my guess.

Alt Theories?

A more fantastical theory doing the rounds is that Mister Sinister is the hidden villain of Brand New Day. Who will then go on to become the main villain of the first X-Men movie.

It’s a cool idea, but I really think it’s a bit OTT to fit into a movie that already has everyone I mentioned above, never mind a secretly cast Sinister. Occam’s Razor, if I had to, I’d bet on mine, but I have no problem being wrong.

Another fan theory building is that Sony and Marvel have executed a massive disinformation campaign. Sink is not playing Jean grey, but some other vague villain like Shathra. Again, I don’t buy it, too many leakers independent of one another have confirmed Sink’s role and her five picture deal with Marvel.

What do you think? Has the villain of Brand New Day been revealed, or is Tom Holland correct that it remains a secret? Thoughts below as always.
