Top Gun: Maverick Featurette Focuses On Practical Aviation

New Top Gun: Maverick Trailer And Poster Blasts Off The Promotional Campaign

We’ve become so desensitized to spectacle in this day and age. When we see Captain America jumping on a hoverjet, it’s easy to see that it’s just a dude running around on a green-screen set with possibly a piece of the jet built. Yes, in context it’s great, and it fits the bill, but we often don’t realize just how much we miss out on true spectacle, which comes with doing things for real, Tom Cruise-style.

We got to see some of that with the recent Mission: Impossible films, and with Cruise’s latest, Top Gun: Maverick, they’re going to painstaking lengths to do the aviation for real. Seriously, check out the featurette down below.

You almost don’t even need to see anything past the first thirty seconds. Once you see the shockwaves as the jets blow by, it’s clear that doing this stuff for real is kind of amazing. I don’t know about you guys, but that recent trailer re-opened my eyes to the majesty of filming as real as one can.

Obviously, there’s safety, speed, and the control of elements to consider, so it’s not always possible, but when it is, it’s kind of magical. I have no idea if the movie will be good, but it has me intrigued.
