Trailer Drops For Badass And Kinetic Anime Film MFKZ

I love me some artsy-fartsy anime s**t. Even when they’re swings and misses, they tend to be visually-arresting on some level. One such film several years ago was the so-ugly-it’s-beautiful Tekkonkinkreet. I honestly hated the movie, but couldn’t deny its strong directorial hand and unique style. It had me interested in the studio.

Their latest project is called MFKZ, and it follows a character named Angelino who somehow gets caught up in some dark stuff that turns his world upside-down. I honestly don’t know a lot about this, plot-wise, but it looks to be an interesting ride. Perhaps most noteworthy is that its English cast consists of talent like Giancarlo Esposito, RZA, and Danny Trejo.

Not bad.

Below is the official synopsis for MFKZ:

“Genre-mashup MFKZ is the collaboration of French comic artist Guillaume “Run” Renard and ultra-hip Japanese animation house Studio 4°C, creators of Tekkonkinkreet, Genius Party and Mind Game. The Tekkonkinkreet dream team of Shojiro Nishimi and art director Shinji Kimura reunite to bring to life a dark but stunningly animated sci-fi vision that mixes anime, film noir, and Lucha Libre in an orgy of video game-inspired mayhem.”

“The film centers on young Angelino and his skull-and-flame pal Vinz, who live in a seedy tenement in an LA-inspired dystopian metropolis – a burnt-out, gang and cockroach-ridden neo-urban hell. Following a scooter accident Angelino starts experiencing migraines and strange hallucinations, as well as fits of rage-inspired superpowers, as he slowly awakens to the truth of his origins: he is half human and half Macho, a supernatural alien race that is bent on taking over the planet.”
