Every so often, we get trailers for some unexpectedly interesting-looking indie flicks. In a world where we’re inundated with superhero movies and big blockbusters, it’s occasionally refreshing to take a step back and look at some of those smaller films made under more normal circumstances. With a strong core premise and solid execution, these movies have the potential to make quite the impact.

Today, the trailer for a new film called Burn was released, and while it’s too early to say whether or not it could be one of these special movies, it certainly has my attention. The film follows a wallflower of a woman who works at a gas station. She seems almost numb to her mundane life experiences, and as a result, tends to burn herself.

We see it in brief moments, such as when she dips her fingers in a pot of coffee. And then things all go to hell when a man tries to rob the store. Just take a look.

What I really like about this trailer is the way it lays the foundation for the story in the setting. We get a glimpse of this girl’s sad life and the boring store. When the guy breaks in, it’s almost like she has an out, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up being the main baddie in this piece, with the robber and the other store clerk having to team up against her when she snaps.

I also love the line “fire just forces things to change really fast,” and that pretty much sums up storytelling to the letter, in how extreme conditions force a character to change.

But, we’ll see. If nothing else, it looks like an intriguing thriller. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
