Vernestra Rwoh Confirmed To Be Only High Republic Character In The Acolyte

Showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed that Vernestra Rwoh is the only High Republic character who appears in The Acolyte.

Showrunner Leslye Headland has confirmed that Vernestra Rwoh is the only High Republic character who appears in The Acolyte. Rwoh is a member of a long lived species and thus by the time of The Acolyte she will be 116 years old. The character however first appeared as a 16 year old in the High Republic books. However, speaking with Empire Headland conforms that the character has been through a lot in these last 100 years.

“I absolutely love Vernestra. You can tell, because I cast my wife,” she laughs while speaking to Empire. But, she says, much has changed in the time between the High Republic novels and where we find Vernestra now – she’s “been through some shit,” according to the showrunner. “That has resulted in her going from this fun-seeking adventurer character [in the books], to a little bit closer to the [type of] Jedi that we see in The Phantom Menace,” Headland teases. Most notably, in the High Republic books, Vernestra has converted her purple lightsaber so that its blade can also become a lightwhip – though Headland is keeping schtum on whether we’ll see some lightwhip action in The Acolyte.’

“Because she has been around for so long, she has basically met everyone that has come through the Temple, and seen them all die their natural deaths if they’re living a natural human life,” explains Henderson. “She’s known [Lee Jung-jae’s Jedi Master] Sol since he was a tiny child.”

Headland says it’s possible if The Acolyte gets a Season 2 that other High Republic characters could show up. We can also very accurately date The Acolyte based on the article stating Vernestra is 116 years old. This means The Acolyte indeed takes place exactly 100 years prior to The Phantom Menace. Also, another Century after Vernestra first appears in the HR books.

I’m not sure about the light whip thing, I have to say. However, I’ll reserve judgement until we see if it is used in the show.

What do you think of Headland’s comments as she confirms Vernestra Rwoh is the only High Republic character who appears in The Acolyte? Thoughts below as always.
