Looks like Vin Diesel has locked down another comic book gig. According to a new report from Deadline, the actor has closed a deal with Sony Pictures to star in the sci-fi/action flick Bloodshot. The film is an adaptation of the Valiant comic book series of the same name from creators Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton.
On board to direct the film is Dave Wilson, who will be making his directorial debut. While he is new to the directing business, he has been in the business a while, and has collaborated in the past with Deadpool director Tim Miller at Miller’s own Blur Studios. If the idea of a first-time director doesn’t sit well with you, take solace in the fact that the script comes from the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer, who made a splash over a year ago with Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival.
The story of Bloodshot revolves around a biologically-enhanced former soldier who has no memory, and is out to figure out who he is and get revenge on those who wronged him. The premise alone sounds like something out of the ’80s, and with that in mind, it sounds fitting that the film will be set in the tone of ’80s classics like Robocop, The Terminator, and Total Recall.
The movie will be set to film this coming July.
