Walter Hamada Leaves WB/D As President Of DC Films

This was always coming eventually, but Deadline reports that Walter Hamada leaves WB/D where most recently he served as president of DC films. Hamada has been in charge of DC since 2018 and has to deal with some tough times. Most recently, since the WB/D merger, much of Hamada’s plans have already been reversed. For example Hamada is reported to have wanted to make a clean break from the Zack Snyder movies. Yet, now we are getting the return of Henry Cavill as Superman. Batgirl which was also greenlit by Hamada was cancelled mid-way through completion also.

The one success we can perhaps point to from Hamada’s reign was The Batman. An extremely popular movie that will now likely be used as a jumping off point for a Bat-Universe within the DCEU. Here is what the trade reported, or at least, the important details.

After 15 years at Warner Bros and four as the president of DC Films, Walter Hamada has finally left the Burbank, CA lot. Sources tell Deadline the exec is waiting for the senior Warner Bros Discovery brass to finalize his exit payout.

Hamada has run DC since 2018, and re-upped in January 2021 with a contract that was supposed to take him through 2023.

The writing has been on the wall for Hamada’s DC exit for quite some time. Sources say he has packed up his office and hasn’t been part of recent creative meetings.

We hear Hamada knew his days were numbered and that this would be the outcome even before he ever met Zaslav, who has been transparent in his desire to bring an exec like Marvel chief Kevin Feige to run DC across all mediums. Zaslav recently courted former Warners development exec and Lego Movie producer Dan Lin for the post. Also former Fox chief Emma Watts has long loomed as a possible head.

So Zaslav still hasn’t found his Kevin Feige. However, to make room for when they do, Hamada is out.

What do you think of this news as Walter Hamada leaves WB/D as president of DC Films? Who is next? Will they be able to finally get the DCEU back on track before everyone gets bored of superheroes? As always, let us know below.
