Steraming services are already the new networks. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime all have a stake in the game. With DC launching their own streaming service in about 10 days and the House of Mouse set to come strong with Disney Play! next year, this is truly the format of the future, some may even argue of the present. CEO of Warner Media, John Stankey, says plans for his company’s streaming service should be laid out by year’s end, and that he doesn’t want to the company’s streaming service to be a recreation of Netflix.
“I don’t want to re-create Netflix. I don’t believe the Netflix that we know today is likely to be the Netflix of three years from today. Less reliant on library content. I think Netflix is working very aggressively to have more content and more engagement on [content they own].”

While Netflix currently sits atop the streaming mountain and will likely stay there for the foreseeable future, Warner Media seems anxious to get in the game as well, and over time they may be able to compete with Netflix. I think the real threat to dethrone Netflix in the long run is Disney, who has almost endless resources and one of the larger libraries of popular content which includes both Marvel and Star Wars as well as the tons of other classics they own.
