WarnerMedia: WB’s Streaming Service Will Cost More Than You Hoped For

If you’re reading this there’s a really good chance you have a subscription to at least one media streaming service. Netflix is by far the most popular with well over 137 million subscribers according to The Motley Fool. Amazon has over 100 million Prime Subscribers as well as 26 million who subscribe to the video service alone. Hulu is way behind with around 20 million subscribers in the United States. The point being that getting subscribers is tough. Content rules and right now, no one tops Netflix… Until Disney+ takes all of the Marvel and Star Wars stuff with it after that, who knows. So what does the upcoming WarnerMedia service from AT&T (yeah the phone company owns Warner Bros and HBO and DC and…) do to get your hard earned money? Charge you $16 – $17 dollars a month!

To put things into perspective Disney has announced their Disney+ service will cost $6.99 a month and will provide access to their entire collection (at all times) including Marvel and Star Wars properties. HBO Now costs $14.99 and Netflix’s standard is now $12.99. When the Warner streaming service was first announced they said they’d have three tiers of pricing and content, that has apparently been scrapped. However, there are potential plans for an ad-supported lower cost version of the service.

As I said before, content is the key to getting the coveted subscriber. What will WarnerMedia offer? Well, if they’re smarter than they’ve been with DC Universe they’ll put up EVERYTHING! DC Universe currently rotates its content of shows, movies, and comics in and out. That never made sense to this writer. I can foresee issues with Warner competing against itself with DC Universe and HBO, and given the cancellation of Swamp Thing and the lukewarm response to DC’s service, I believe WarnerMedia is likely to absorb DC Universe. That’s what I’d do at least. I can see charging nearly $20 a month if they give you access to HBO and DC as well as stop this ridiculous idea of rotating content.

What do you think of the cost? Will you be subscribing? Let us know in the comments below!
