WB Could Go To Christian Bale For Flashpoint Batman If Michael Keaton Talks Fall Through? | LRM’s Barside Buzz

Christian Bale could enter Flashpoint Batman talks?

After spending years in development, that standalone Flash movie has finally started gaining traction. And as was revealed years ago at San Diego Comic-Con, they appear to be aiming for a Flashpoint adaptation. I know this shouldn’t be surprising, but as time went on, it did feel like they were leaning away from Flashpoint, but that no longer seems to be the case. This is evidenced by all the news last week about Michael Keaton being in talks to join.

Keaton first joined the Batman franchise way back in the late 80s with the release of Batman. He reprised his role in Batman Returns before stepping down from the cowl altogether. And then the DC films moved on. Since then, we’ve had four other men play the Caped Crusader, with one more in the works. But with the Arrowverse essentially merging universes together, Keaton’s time to shine as Bruce Wayne has returned.

But what if Michael Keaton doesn’t join the DCEU? Remember, he’s only reported to be in talks, so nothing is set in stone. Well, Warner Bros. reportedly has a backup plan. DCEU Mythic is reporting that the studio would turn to Christian Bale should Keaton fall through. That’s right. Good ol’ Nolan’s Batman. This is quite the interesting rumor since it seems highly unlikely Bale would want to return without Nolan. But stranger things have happened.

As far as going for a version of Batman that could act as a mentor, I do think Keaton is the right choice. As great as he is, he does seem like someone willing to return. Plus, enough time has passed that it won’t feel odd to see him return to one of his most iconic roles. Were Bale to return, it would almost feel like he never left. Plus, Nolan put so much into that world, I’d hate for WB to cheapen it in any way with a subpar story.

Of course, the Bale rumor may ultimately mean nothing if true. Should Keaton take on the role, this will have been much ado about nothing.
