Well, the contributors at LRM are here to help you out with a weekly column called What 2 Watch. Check out the recommendations from some of our contributors. We hope that there is something on this list that you can find solace in while in quarantine!

Mark Cook

Title: Code 8

Where it can be found: Netflix

Why I like it: The movie features Robbie Amell (CW’s Flash) and Stephen Amell (CW’s Arrow) who I am a big fan of.  The story focuses on super-powered people who are outlawed from using their powers and have to navigate life hiding their powers. Fans of the DC/CW shows will definitely enjoy this movie.

James Burns

Title: Mackenna’s Gold

Where it can be found: Criterion Channel

Why I like it: Besides the fact that I grew up in Arizona near where the movie is set, this flick mixes an Indiana Jones-style search for treasure with the grit and tone of America’s classic western films. Directed by J. Lee Thompson, and featuring a star-studded cast including the likes of Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif, Telly Savalas, Eli Wallach, Julie Newmar, Burgess Meredith, and much more, this 1969 classic is definitely worth the watch.

What 2 Watch

Emmanuel Gomez

Title: The Big Show Show

Where it can be found: Netflix

Why I like It: It combines my love of wrestling with a classic sitcom format. After watching Paul Wight (aka The Big Show) all these years as a wrestler, it’s great to be able to watch him on a funny series that both my daughter and I can enjoy as a family. Is it cheesy? Of course! But right now we can all use a little bit of that.

What 2 Watch

Jay Bradshaw

Title: Tiger King

Where: Netflix

Why I like it: It is one season documentary of Joe Schreibvogel’s crazy life of taking care of tigers and other wild animals. The episodes show a point of view that you can decide if he is a good guy, bad guy or just a very eccentric guy. Most of the episodes focus on his hate for his nemesis Carole Baskin. He calls himself Joe Exotic and we get to see his complicated love life, his animal zoo, and short political run which is all a complete train wreck. But became of the way he acts and lives it became a big hit on Netflix. Simple put you cannot help but watch it and see how he ends up in jail. Most people with Netflix have seen it and a report during a Daily Coronavirus Brief in DC, asked the U.S. President if he would give Joe Schreibvogel a pardon. The President had no clue who that was till an aid said Joe Exotic and then he laughed and said, “That guy!?” He asked why he was in jail, the reporter said he hired someone to kill Carole Baskin. He said he would look into maybe, this show seems to be every place now.

What 2 Watch

Michael Nardelli

Title: Barry

Where it can be found: HBO

Why I like it: A more sardonic, humorous Breaking Bad. Bonus points if you live in LA and appreciate the satire of acting classes and the entertainment industry!

Title: Spirited Away

Where it can be Found: iTunes

Why I like it: A classic animated masterpiece I missed the first time around. Huge fan of Princess Mononoke and it seems Hayao Miyazaki can do no wrong!

Anthony Esteves

Title: Insecure

Where it can be found: HBO

Why I like it: Hilarious series following the friendship of Issa Dee (Issa Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), two modern-day African-American women dealing with their own personal trials and tribulations. Rae, Orji, and the entire supporting cast play off each other beautifully in a series created by Rae and Larry Wilmore (The Office, The Bernie Mac Show).

What 2 Watch

Title: Ozark

Where it can be found: Netflix

Why I like it: Jason Bateman and Laura Linney star as Marty and Wendy Byrde, a financial advisor and his wife who are forced to move their family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks in order to launder money for a drug cartel. A gripping script, superb directing (Bateman directed eight episodes and won an Emmy for his work), and a cast performing at the top of their game—including the electric Julia Garner as Ruth Langford.

As you can see these recommendations are a wide variety and we hope that it helped you out for your next watch.  We will be back next week with some more recommendations to get you through this quarantine.
