Wheel Of Time Season 2 BTS Clip – Renewed For Season 3 And Showrunner Q&A

Wheel of Time Episode 6 Review - Fantastic Performances And Political Intrigue Leave Me Happy

From the first day of SDCC we have a Wheel of Time Season 2 BTS clip below, plus the show has been renewed for Season 3. Lastly some showrunner Q&A details worth discussing as well. Before we start I’ll point out I am a big fans of The Wheel of Time books and I enjoyed Season 1. Well, maybe until that finale which I didn’t think was particularly well executed.

However I’ve always said this is a story that gets a lot better as it goes on, so I have hope for the future. First off here is the Wheel of Time Season 2 BTS montage released late yesterday.

Always hard to get a proper feel from BTS clips, as it’s more of a glimpse behind the curtain. However so for I have to say what I’m seeing looks good. There are a few little details in here for the eagle eyed book fans to get excited about. However without spoiling the story, it would be hard to cover these in detail. Book fans will know the parts I am talking about, the rest of you will have to wait for the story to unfold.

Season 3

Next up we have confirmation from Amazon that The Wheel of Time is renewed for Season 3. Given that Season 1 was such a hit, this seemed like an inevitability. I am just pleased we are at least guaranteed to get to book 4 of the series, which is for me when the whole story real kicks into gear in a big way.

As for where I’m getting the information about Season 3 covering book 4, well…

Showrunner Q&A

Rafe Judkins did a post-Con Q&A, nicely summed up by WoTSeries. I’m not planning to cover everything Rafe answered here, please feel free to check the link if you want everything. However I will cover a few important facts. Just be aware that if you do read the full Q&A as a non-book reader there may be some mild spoilers.

First off that the plan is for Season 2 to cover off plot points from books 1-3 so that Season 3 can start pretty much with book 4 The Shadow Rising. For those unaware Season 1 already covered elements from books 1-3. However Rafe says there are still some elements of the early books that won’t appear in the show till much later on.

“We are trying to get a fair amount of what’s done in Books 1-3 (large parts still being held for later) by the end of S2 so that S3 can be a much closer adaptation of TSR. “

As I said, The Shadow Rising is usually considered one of the best of the 14 books in this series. So this makes me happy.

Rafe was also asked which characters stories will change the most from the books?

“Mat. But we try to bring the characters back to where they should be by the end of S2.”

Honestly this kinda makes sense and I talked about Mat a lot in our The Dragon Reviewed show. Ultimately Mat’s goes through a strange period between books 1-3 which I felt dragged on a little too long. Once we get to book 4 though, which in this case will be Season 3, Mat becomes the most popular character for most fans. We also know Mat’s path at the end of Season 1 was different from the books. One wonders if the main reason for that was the change of actor to Donal Finn from Barney Harris? And no, we still don’t know the full story why Harris left, and we may never.

Another change if you like is the plan to give Moiraine and Lan more do do here than they had in the second book.

“Another big departure point for us from the books is making much more story for Moiraine and Lan. We aren’t sitting these two amazing actors on the bench for a season, so we take what’s in Book 2 for them and expand it in a huge way. That’s all I can say.”

And that’s all we have for you on the showrunner Q&A for now. Feel free to check the full thing over on the link above.

So, The Wheel of Time Renewed for Season 3. Are you happy with this, what did you think of the Season 2 BTS clips? As always, leave any thoughts below or over on Discord.
