We truly live in a new era of television. When most shows were restricted to networks, we’d see each one at the same time every year for roughly the same number of weeks at a time. They’d take a few months off and we’d be back in the midst of the TV grind. Not so much these days. With expensive TV fantasy series, productions are long and arduous, and audiences often have to wait upwards of a year and a half to get their latest fix. Such will likely be the case for the Wheel of Time series from Amazon Prime Video.
This series, which is based on the novels by Robert Jordan, has been in the limelight for some time. Its development and casting were closely followed, and its production has been under the microscope of fans for months. But we still have heard almost nothing about when the show will actually launch.
Well, the potential release window for the show has just been hinted at: in an article from Balance. The outlet featured an interview with star Rosamund Pike, who will be portraying Moiraine. In the preamble to the interview, they state that the show is slated for a 2021 release. So, can we take it to the bank that that’s when the show is set to come out?

I wouldn’t say so. Is it highly likely that 2021 is its release based on logic? Yes, it’s fairly possible. Given its size and scope, as well Amazon’s likely desire to ensure it’s of the highest quality, they may put a lot of time into post. That being said, unless Balance was given a piece of information we’re all missing, I don’t see that being the case. And if they had been given this information from the streamer or from Pike, I think they would have made it known in the article, itself, which they didn’t. Either that, or they simply didn’t realize the information they were given wasn’t widely known.
All in all, I think this is like a case where the writer of the piece had an assumption in their head and wrote it down before double-checking it, which all outlets have done at one point or another.
Either way, what do you think? Do you think 2021 is a likely release window, or do you think 2020 is still a real possibility? Let us know your thoughts down below!
