Wheel Of Time Showrunner Teases Sword Training For Rand In Season 3

Some Wheel of Time Season 3 news folks as three new cast members have been revealed now that filming has wrapped.

In a recent interview The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins teases sword training for Rand in Season 3. The Season 2 finale saw a face off between Rand and a certified blade master, and in the books Rand defeats him. However, in the show so far, Rand has barely used a sword. Rand has only begun exploring some basic sword forms with an old senile man. Therefore, the show had Rand defeat Turak in a different way. I guess it was the One Power equivalent of the Indiana Jones scene in Raiders with the swordsman.

Some fans were disappointed we are not seemingly getting Rand as a swordsman. However, when speaking with TOR recently, Judkins explained why they had to make that scene different in the show. Judkins also teased there will be sword training for Rand in Season 3.

“One of the most iconic scenes in book two is the face-off between Rand and Turak. But we haven’t done the storyline of Rand doing the sword forms with Lan… yet. It’s a story that’s coming. And so, in order to deliver on that scene, what we tried to do was find another scene to pair it up with and there’s this really great scene in book three.”

Judkins goes to to elaborate on why they decided to use a book 3 scene as inspiration.

“Season two is a lot of books two and three combined. You have the iconic fight between Rand and Turak in book two and then—there’s not very many scenes of Rand in book three, but in one of them, he kills all these bandits, and they all bow to him at the end of the scene. And it’s quite disturbing in the books, and it’s quite unsettling. And so finding a way to put those two scenes together was what we intended at the beginning of the scene. It gives this dual life to Rand—we really need the audience to see the amount of power he has, even when he doesn’t really know how to use it, so that you can start to fear him as much as admire him.

Some bookcloaks have complained Rand hasn’t been shown to be as powerful yet as Nynaeve or even Egwene. I’ve said before, I think they are holding this back for when we see Rand use a certain item beginning with C in a place called Tear. Enough said for book fans. For show only fans, that’s not enough to give you anything. Well, unless you go searching spoilers from the books, which you could have done anyway. However, that’s all just my opinion and any fan out there is entitled to have their own.

One thing is for sure, we really have not seen anything yet when it comes to what Rand, yet.
