Why We Didn’t See [Spoiler] In Spider-Man: Far From Home

There are spoilers ahead. Not just about this specific character, but about the movie in general. If you haven’t seen Spider-Man: Far From Home yet, you’re wrong and terrible! Sorry, I meant to tell you to go see the film before reading this article.

Welcome to spoilertown! Spider-Man: Far From Home was full of easter eggs, comic book references, and really put the thought of cameos in our minds. Not that there were a lot of cameos, but that one was huge and two were missing. The big surprise cameo of J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson during the mid-credits gave everybody chills. The actor played that character in all three of Sam Raimi’s Spidey films and voiced him in games and cartoons. Fans have been demanding he reprise the role ever since Spidey appeared in Captain America: Civil War. The most obvious missing Cameo was Stan Lee’s, of course. Lee passed away last year and his final cameo in the MCU was in this year’s Avengers: Endgame. There was one more cameo people were expecting though, Aaron Davis aka The Prowler.

Donald Glover played Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales, in Spider-Man: Homecoming and immediately set the world on fire about Miles being in the MCU. Many people are excited about the idea of Miles appearing in the live-action format, especially after the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. So why didn’t Glover make an appearance in the film? He lives in NYC and the movie takes place in Europe. Yes, it’s really that simple.

In an interview with THR, Far From Home’s writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, had this to say about Glover’s Aaron Davis:

McKenna – We definitely considered that. We definitely thought, ‘How great it would be to bring back Aaron Davis again.’ Other considerations come in. We went down that road a little bit, then the movie really spent such little time in Queens and gets to Europe pretty quickly. Some ideas you just have to give up.

Sommers – That’s really what it came down to. We loved that character and we wanted to do it, but we just wanted to get out of New York and get on the trip as soon as possible. There were several things we would have loved to do in New York before he left, but we just didn’t have time.”

That makes sense to me. This movie really did try to get out of NYC as fast as it could, and it worked for the story they were telling. However, I am all by certain that Aaron Davis AND Miles Morales will be making an appearance in future MCU films. I personally want to see a third MCU Spider-Man film have the introduction of Morales and the Sinister Six. Then the fourth film should have Peter Parker die in a fight with the Sinister Six and Morales take up the mantel. What do you think? Should Sony hire me?
