With Toy Story 4 Certified Fresh and currently sitting at a 98% on RottenTomatoes, the film is another successful and soon-to-be beloved entry into the franchise. Like many others, I asked why would Pixar risk tainting the three awesome films that existed in the series with a fourth?

One of the bigger reasons was even though the then Toy Story trilogy ended in such a fantastic way, was Woody’s arc felt incomplete to the filmmakers, there was more story to tell. While I haven’t seen the film yet, I also haven’t heard one bad thing about it, and assuming what I’ve heard is for the most part true, will this be the last entry into a near perfect series of films?

Director, Josh Cooley was asked during an interview with /Film how he would feel if this was the final installment to the Toy Story franchise, you can check out what he had to say below.

“It has not happened, and I one hundred percent agree with you. I would be totally happy if this was the end.”

Mark Neilsen and Jonas Rivera, producers on the film had the following to say regarding a fifth Toy Story film.

Neilsen:

“We’ve been totally focused on four, so we haven’t really thought beyond that. I mean, we never know what the future holds. We didn’t think there was going to be a four. We didn’t think there was going to be a three after we finished two!”

Rivera:

“We felt like Woody needed to have a completion to his arc, and we’ve done that. We feel satisfied with it.”

While the quotes above give no confirmation one way or the other, another installment into the series doesn’t sound likely. On the other hand it wouldn’t be the first time an unplanned sequel of the franchise made it to the big screen.
