xCloud Game Streaming Being Tested On Browsers By Microsoft

Xbox Cloud Gaming Now On iOS

xCloud Game Streaming is ultimately getting to play Xbox Game Pass games without needing an Xbox. Currently the service works as an app that is downloaded onto Android Devices. Equally PC users can to access their game on that service.  download an Xbox Game Pass app. Sounds great, but currently Microsoft has an issue, and that issue is Apple. Apple will not allow the Xbox Games Pass app to work on iOS devices. That’s a pretty big chunk of the market and this is due to Apple requiring each game to be separately approved.

Microsoft’s plan to get around this is to allow xCloud Streaming to work through a browser. So If on an Apple device, I would simply use Safari to go to a web page. There, I should be able to stream all my Xbox games straight to my Apple device, theoretically. Well according to The Verge, that is exactly what Microsoft are testing now. The outlet also shows some images of this browser on their site. Though it’s unclear if these are leaked images, or mocked up images to simulate what things will look like. I have to say those images look genuine to me, so I can’t simply post them here for you.

According to the outlet Microsoft are planning a public preview of this service in the Spring. The current phase of testing amongst Microsoft employees is therefore in an effort to be ready for the public unveiling. The question is, will the xCloud streaming service work as well through a browser as it does a dedicated app?

As an Apple iPhone user myself, I am keen to test how good this browser streaming is. I work from home these days though, this would have been great for the commute of my past though. The only time this would be handy for me now is when my Wife is watching a TV show I’m not into. Yeah, on second thought this would be a handy feature I could use. Let’s hope it’s a good customer experience in the end.

What do you think of xCloud Game Streaming? Is that a service that you currently use, or think you will use eventually? As always, leave any thoughts you have below.
